Dire Wolf Injuries

Back to Fossils

This is just one of the many injuries that have been observed in the thousands of dire wolves (Canis dirus) from Rancho La Brea. These two femurs (thigh bones) are from the same individual. The upper femur is normal, while the lower femur has fused very poorly due to a massive and crippling compound fracture.
