Laboratory Volunteer Information

The scientific staff of the Page Museum is always looking for conscientious people to work as volunteers in our science laboratory.  At present, volunteers work on sorting matrix and cleaning/repairing fossil bones collected during both our early digs in 1914-1915 and our current excavation at Pit 91.

No experience is necessary to be a volunteer at the Page Museum.  We will train you as you go.  Our requirements are:

1. You must be at least 16 years of age (parental consent is required for ages 16 and 17).  The minimum age is a legal requirement for the County's insurance policy.
2. You must give a minimum of eight (8) hours per week.  At the present time, we are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Wednesday through Friday and 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday and Sunday.  The eight hours can be put in all in one day or split between two days.  Due to space constraints, we must schedule volunteers to come on the same day and time each week.
3. We ask that you continue with us at least three (3) months.  It does take time to train volunteers, and if you cannot come in for more than a few weeks, it detracts rather than adds to the amount of work we are able to accomplish.
4. To work in our summer dig (July - September) at Pit 91, volunteers must have satisfactorily completed ninety-six (96) hours of lab work.
5. You must follow all rules and instructions.  The museum reserves the right to terminate unsatisfactory volunteers.
6. Unfortunately, we can make no exceptions to these requirements.

College and high school students may receive school credit for their work here, but that must be arranged by the individual and his or her counselor or instructor.
